Today, we bring you an interview with Whitney Jackson & Brandon Mendez or in other words, the producer and production designer of the ‘WAP’ music video! The whole interview was conducted online. Our own Katy asked them about how was it working with Cardi and her team, filming in the times of Covid, what do they look for in a great production team + a bit of advice at the end. Whitney Jackson
Whitney is a freelance producer who has worked with the biggest names in the game – Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Dua Lipa or Hayley Williams. Based in sunny LA, California, her portfolio includes numerous audiovisual pieces where she was in the role of producer or executive producer. In fact, she received a Grammy nomination in 2018 for Janelle Monáe’s ‘PYNK’ music video. This year, we are excited to have her work ‘WAP’ nominated for BMVA! Besides music videos, Whitney produced commercials for brands like Puma, Beats by Dre, Apple or Facebook. Her work is definitely worth checking out!
Brandon Mendez
Just like Whitney, Brandon is no stranger to the music video scene. His work as a production designer includes pieces by stars like Eminem, Maroon 5, Ariana Grande or Lana Del Rey. You can see his mark on commercials for Go Daddy, YSL, LIDL or Amazon and the list certainly doesn’t end here. Brandon was also part of a film crew as a production designer in 2020 projects ‘Four Good Days’ and ‘Black Is King’. Regarding awards and nominations, Mr Mendez received an Emmy in 2018 for production design on Nick Jr.’s ‘Girls In Charge’. Head over to his website or IG to see what he’s up to!
