Forget about the invasive, biased imagery of Valentine’s Day. Our hearts are charcoal black with this Music Video of the Week: you chose Le Coeur Noir Charbon by CELESTE, directed by Grégoire Orio.
Grégoire Orio has a rich career as a creator of unique, complex artwork behind him. He explores a variety of art mediums, such as documentaries, experimental short films, and performance. The director’s technical mastery results in dark poetry in which music plays a fundamental role, making his collaboration with the French avant-garde metal band CELESTE all the more meaningful.
Le Coeur Noir Charbon is featured on the band’s most recent record, Assassine(s), an innovative, one-of-a-kind, quarantine-made album. Just like director Grégoire Orio, CELESTE has a delightful penchant for defying the conventions of genres and creating their own shifting, rich sound.
What better way to convey the hardships, violence, and impulsiveness inherent to human relationships?
