For this edition of Music Video Of The Week, get ready for the most grandiose funeral. You picked Fils de Joie by Belgian singer and songwriter Stromae.
In Fils de Joie, Stromae gives the eulogy of a fictional sex worker, through the eyes of both her son and a former client. This fruitful collaboration between creative directors Luc Van Haver, Coralie Barbier, and Stromae himself brings “to life” the tale of the struggles and social biases that shaped her life.
Through impressive cinematography, editing and choreography work, the video joins intimate storytelling and political discourse with great virtuosity. The singer’s performance is reminiscent of his predecessor and fellow Belgian artist Jacques Brel, and delivers a very actual and important message of tolerance and humility.
And we haven’t even mentioned the very meticulous aesthetics of the video! But we will leave the rest… for you to discover by yourself!
